Assurance: July 10, 2015

TODAY’S WORD FOR FRIDAY JULY 10, 2015.

ASSURANCE

DEFINITION:

A positive declaration intended to give confidence; support; promise or pledge; freedom from doubt; freedom from timidity; confidence.

SCRIPTURE:

Everyone that calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13.

Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed. Romans 10:11.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

In today’s world people need assurance in their life. Many have very low self-esteem. They have no one person or nothing else in their life that can give them assurance for the present or the future. The general mood of our culture has put a spirit of fear in the life of a person that does not know Jesus.

Many people today are experiencing anxiety and depression and then are turning to alcohol, drugs, or sexual pleasures which in turn results in strained family relations (between children and parents)and in many cases broken marriages, abandoned children, illness and even death.

We as believers face the same uncertainties in life but the difference is that we have the promise of God and the assurance that God, our Savior, is guiding and protecting us through every event of every day. But we need to remind ourselves again that when God makes these promises to us there is always a condition. In this case we must communicate with our Lord in prayer and by reading His Word.

Assurance is the opposite of uncertainty. We live in a world of uncertainty. Events are moving at such a rapid pace that we cannot be certain what tomorrow will bring. We cannot know what the future holds but we can know the one who holds the future. Because God cannot lie we can be assured that God will keep His promises. Hebrews 11:1 shows us the assurance that faith gives us. “Now faith is being SURE (assurance) of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

Fanny Bryce was blind and could not see where she was going here on this earth but she had total assurance about where she was going to spend eternity because she knew Jesus.

Fanny wrote more than 8,000 hymns. One of our favorites was “Blessed Assurance.” The first line reads, “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine.”

Do you have this same assurance? We truly hope that you do.

LEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in John 1:1.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

PRAYER:

Although I cannot know what tomorrow may bring, thank You for the assurance I can have that you are leading and guiding me every moment of today. Also thank You for the assurance of spending an eternity with You. Bless my family and together may we honor and glorify Your name in all that we do.
