Happy New Year: January 1, 2010

TODAYS WORD FOR FRIDAY JANUARY 1

HAPPY NEW YEAR

GODS WORD

“Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9.

WORDS BY KEN AND DOTTIE

Have you set your goals for 2010? If not stop now and set a few specific goals.

You need to begin by setting your first goal by having a daily relationship with God through His Son Jesus.

Secondly, you need a goal to set your standards high so that all that you do will honor God.

Thirdly, you need to set firm goals as to your relationship with your family, your spouse and your children.

And finally set a goal as to how you reach out to the world around you.

When you do this God will take care of the rest. He will bless you and reward you in a way that you will not believe.

Both of us wish you nothing but GODS BEST for 2010. Have a most HAPPY NEW YEAR!

TODAYS FAMILY PRAYER

Thank You Lord for all Your blessings that You have given me and my family this past year. As I look forward to a new year, keep my priorities focused on You. Help me keep my new commitments to You. Give me a desire to reach out to others and share with them the love of Jesus.

Resolutions Part One: December 28, 2009

TODAYS WORD FOR MONDAY DECEMBER 28.
NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS
PART ONE
RESOLUTION

Defined by Webster:
A formal expression of opinion or intention; the act of resolving or determining upon a course of action.

GODS WORD

“Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your father served on the other side of the river in Egypt. Serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:14

WORDS BY KEN AND DOTTIE

In just four days a new year will begin. For many Americans, when they begin a new year they make what some call NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS. These are mostly what we refer to as changing “THINGS” in our lives that we do not like or have not accomplished in the past. Examples may include: quitting smoking, quitting drinking, losing weight, helping others, saving money, being a better person etc.

Each day this week we want to encourage you to consider some NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS that will make a difference in your life and your family’s life. In the scripture verse above Joshua gave his New Year resolution speech to the children of Israel. He said that they were first to serve the Lord, then put away the gods that they served before they crossed the Jordan River. This reference to “gods” meant things in there lives that took the place of their service to the Lord.

Down through the years, if you have been like us, we have made resolutions like losing weight, reaching out to new friends, expanding our time with family and so many other things. But unfortunately in 30 days or less they were forgotten.

Your first resolution for 2010 should be your relationship with God. When you establish and take care of your spiritual priorities, God will take care of your everyday needs. Maybe the following questions will help you find where you are today in your relationship with the Lord. Do you spend time daily alone praying and reading the Bible? This is the only way that God can communicate with you and you in turn can communicate with Him.

Do you have a set time everyday when you have time with your family where you can talk, listen, read the bible and pray together? Most families either ignore establishing this time together or feel it just cannot work out. PLEASE --- NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY THEN TO ESTABLISH THIS TIME DAILY IN 2010.

Are you serving the Lord in sincerity and in truth as Joshua asked the Children of Israel?

In order to get your spiritual priorities in order you need to make three RESOLUTIONS for 2010:

• Resolve to spend a predetermined regular time alone with God.
• Determine to spend quality time each day alone with your family.
• Determine to serve God and put Him first in your life.

Tomorrow we will share some more thoughts on NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS.

OUR VERSE TO MEMORIZE THIS WEEK.

“And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.”
John 8:32

TODAYS FAMILY PRAYER

Help me this week to set resolutions in my life for 2010 that will have a positive effect on my life, my family’s life and all those that we touch in 2010.

Resolutions Part Two: December 29, 2009

TODAYSWORD FOR TUESDAY DECEMBER 29

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS
PART TWO
RESOLUTION

Defined by Webster:
A resolve or determination; the act of resolving or determining upon a course of action.

GODS WORD

“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

WORDS FROM KEN AND DOTTIE

Yesterday we discussed setting new resolutions for 2010. The three we discussed were establishing a time alone daily with God, set a time daily with your family to talk, listen, pray and read the Bible and finally to serve God in all you do.

Today we want to talk about setting a New Years Resolution concerning the standards we will live by in 2010. God gave Moses THE TEN COMMANDMENTS that He expected us to live by daily. Unfortunately, across America and even around our world the Ten Commandments have been forgotten. Not only forgotten but they have been banned from the public schools and government owned property here in America.

We want to challenge you to make a New Years Resolution that involves the Ten Commandments. First of all, get a copy from a book store or write out your own copy from Deuteronomy chapter 5. Every day with your family, in your time together, have someone read the Ten Commandments. This can be your basis for discussion as a family. You can ask the question --- did any one break one of these commandments today? If so then, why did it happen? This should not be a time for criticism or punishment but a time to learn each commandment and set the standards you need in your family.

Joshua made it clear in the verse we have written above that for him and his house, they would serve the Lord. You as a family need to make that same commitment and by spending time reviewing and knowing and then living by these commandments you will be able to say with Joshua that you are serving the Lord in all that you are doing.

Tomorrow we will look at another resolution that we need to have in our lives for 2010.

OUR VERSE TO MEMORIZE

“And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:32

TODAYS FAMILY PRAYER

Help me personally and my family set standards for our lives in 2010 that will honor and glorify Your name.

Resolutions Part Three: December 30, 2009

TODAYS WORD FOR WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 30

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS
PART THREE
RESOLUTION

Defined by Webster:
The act or process of resolving or determining upon a course of action.

GODS WORD

“Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.” Joshua 24:15

WORDS BY KEN AND DOTTIE

This week we have discussed making SPIRITUAL resolutions for 2010 and then we know that if we make and keep these God will meet our physical needs far above what we ever hoped or prayed for. We have discussed making resolutions that affect our relationship with God and then setting standards that honor God.

Today we want to discuss making a new years resolution that affects how we treat and live with our families, spouses and parents. When you have dealt with the issue of where God is in your life and then the issue of setting your standards at a level that honors God, you will have established a base that will make your relationships with your family a blessing and bring harmony and unity to your family life.

The big issues with family relationships center in several areas. As you consider your family and your concerns, think on these few issues. We believe these are the keys to having a happy family and encourage you to work on these issues one at a time in 2010:

• COMMITMENT: Make commitments that you can keep and make them sincerely with the firm intention of keeping them. Start today by making a commitment to God, your spouse and your children.
• PRAYER: Pray daily alone and with your family. Also read the Bible daily so God can speak to you.
• TRAINING: Take training seriously. Parents train your children with consistency daily. Children learn from their parents and what they learn will influence them the rest of their lives. It is a heavy responsibility. Children look to their parents for direction.
• RESPECT: Learn to respect at all times your God, family, neighbors and friends.
• TIME: Spend your time wisely and learn to schedule your family activities.
• COMMUNICATION: Talk and listen to one another. Speak with kindness and gentleness.
• LOVE: Jesus commands us to love one another. Remember the word JOY. It stands for JESUS, OTHERS and then YOU. Love should follow this order.
• CHOICES: God gives you the freedom of choice. Make yours wisely.
• STANDARDS AND BOUNDARIES: Start with the Ten Commandments. Live by them daily.
• GRATITUDE: Give thanks to God for His blessings and learn to thank family, friends and neighbors.
• ENCOURAGEMENT: Encourage your spouse, your children and your friends.

Tomorrow is NEW YEARS EVE! The New Year will soon be here. Are you ready?

MEMORIZE THIS VERSE.

“AND YOU SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH AND
THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE.”
John 8:32

TODAYS FAMILY PRAYER

Help me personally to resolve to take the necessary actions to get my priorities in order in my own life so that I can help others, beginning with my family. Today, I first of all make a commitment to serve You. Give me the wisdom and guidance in my role as a parent to train my children to make a commitment to serve You.

Resolutions Part Four: December 31, 2009

TODAYS WORD FOR THURSDAY DECEMBER 31

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION
PART FOUR
RESOLUTION

Defined by Webster:
A formal expression; a resolve.

GODS WORD

“Our hearts have never turned back, nor have our steps departed from Your way.” Psalm 44:18.

WORDS BY KEN AND DOTTIE

In this verse David reminds us to always move ahead despite our circumstances. As we begin 2010 in just a few hours, we challenge you to never let circumstances stop you from your goals in life. In these past three days we have looked at making our relationship with God the major priority in our life. Then to stand firm on the standards we set for our life (the Ten Commandments being the basis for our standards). Then yesterday we looked at family relationships.

We now challenge you in 2010 to consider a New Years Resolution to reach out to the world you live in and share the good news of the gospel. For many people this is only done in theory. They say that they are concerned for the world; they pray for people in need but do little or nothing about it.

We are going to make several simple suggestions for you to consider in 2010 that go beyond talk and will require action.

Are you concerned about your neighbors? If you are and are willing to do something to reach them then go to our Web Site and click on the product page. The web site is www.worldbiblesociety.org When you get to the product page go through all the DVD’s that are available. Here is what we suggest to begin with. Order just one CD on the book of Ruth. Then invite your neighbors to your home to watch a DVD on one of the books from the Old Testament. When they arrive put the DVD on and let it do all the work. Doc Beshore is an excellent communicator and at the end you can have a discussion on what was taught.

We can assure you that you will want more. Most of Doc Beshore’s studies are on 5 DVD’s and that means your friends could come 5 weeks in a row. The bottom line is that these are the tools you can use if you really want to reach out to the world you live in.

Possibly you would be more interested in reaching a poor inner city family. We have a partnership program to help you do this. We have several hundred churches who have trained their people to take a box of food that is enough to feed a family for 5 to 7 days. Then the family is invited to that church and they will be helped until they get back on their feet. We are doing this now in only four areas but we will be expanding as people like you help. You can be a HUNGER SOLUTION partner. Go to www.thehungersolution.org and make a New Years Resolution to help an inner city family

OUR VERSE TO MEMORIZE

“And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” John 8:32

TODAYS FAMILY PRAYER

Open my heart today to the world around me. Help my family to be concerned enough about our neighbors that we do something to let them know that Jesus loves them. Teach me to pray daily for my neighbors and for a world that is searching for their Messiah.
