Perfect: February 3, 2012

TODAYS WORD FOR FRIDAY FEBRUARY 3, 2012

PERFECT

DEFINITION:

Complete in every detail; without defect; flawless; exact; precise; skilled.

SCRIPTURE:

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. Job 1:1

Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless (perfect) and I shall be innocent of great transgression. Psalm 19: 13

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

In the verse above from Job we looked at the Hebrew word for “perfect” as used in this verse. It is TAMAN and has several meanings. First it means consumed. Job was in deep sorrow and exhausted after losing all of his family and his possessions but he remained consumed (perfect) in his trust in God.

Job is a wonderful example for us. Often in times of great loss or suffering, doubts about God creep in and our perfect trust in the Lord grows weak. Just when we need the Lord the most, we turn away from the Lord. Job’s faith in God never wavered. When our faith grows weak the first thing we should do is get back to reading God’s Word and praying. When we seek the Lord we will find Him.

TAMAN also means upright. The psalmist writes in Psalm 19:7: “The law of the Lord is perfect restoring the soul.” God’s law is perfect because it keeps us away from sin and upright (perfect). TAMAN also means to be complete, without blemish and blameless. This was Job’s status when we read about him in Job 1.

Our Lord and Savior is perfect and as believers He has set the standards in life that we need to strive for in our lives. In Psalm 18:30 we read that as for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust Him. What a wonderful promise of assurance this is for us as believers. We are not perfect nor has anyone in our world been perfect after Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. It is only by the blood of Jesus that we can be made perfect. When we get to heaven we will be made perfect.

In Matthew 19:16-22 we read when Jesus counsels the rich young ruler. In verse 21 Jesus tells him, “If you want to be perfect, go, and sell what you have and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; and then come and follow Me.”

Our Lord wants us as believers to give of our time, talent and treasure to Him and follow Him. When we do we will store up our treasure in heaven that will endure forever.

LEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in I John 1:3.

That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

PRAYER:

Thank You for the example that You have given us in the life of Job. May the relationship of my family with You grow daily so that we will be able to stand firmly against the evils of the world we live in today. Help us to give to You our time, talent and treasure so we can be used of You.

Grace: February 2, 2012

TODAYS WORD FOR THURSDAY FEBRUARY 2, 2012

GRACE

DEFINITION:

Ease and elegance of manner or movement; kindness; favor; good will; unmerited divine favor.

SCRIPTURE:

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Genesis 6:8.

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” II Corinthians 12: 9

But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Ephesians 4:7

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

The apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:8 that by grace we are saved through faith, and that not of ourselves but it is the gift of God. Simply stated grace is God’s unmerited favor. We do not deserve God’s favor nor can we earn it. It is a gift from God to us that He offers us because of His goodness. It is because of God’s grace that He gave His only Son to die on the cross so that we would not perish in our sin but have eternal life.

Yes, our salvation is a free gift but we should not become complacent in our faith. In II Peter 3:14-18 we are told that as believers we need to be growing in our faith. In verse 14 we are to be doing what is right. In verse 15-16 we are to be confident in the truth of God’s Word. In verse 17 we are to be on our guard against false teaching and finally in verse 18 we are to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Savior Jesus Christ. If we do these things God will be able to use us to make known His wonderful gift of grace to others.

The Hebrew word for grace is CHANAN. It is used in Genesis 6:8 (above). In this passage of the scripture concerning Noah we are told that Noah found grace, the goodness of God, in the eyes of the Lord. Noah found grace because he was a righteous man who walked with God. By God’s grace Noah and his family were saved from the flood.

In the verse above from II Corinthians the apostle Paul reminds us that the grace that God gives us is sufficient to meet all of our needs. What a wonderful promise.

In John 1:17 we are told from where grace comes. It reads: “For the law was given to us through Moses, but grace and truth came to us through Jesus Christ.” Before Jesus came to this earth one lived under the law. The law could not save. It only demonstrated our need to be saved. When Jesus came everything changed because of the cross that Jesus died on and now we live under grace --- the goodness of God.

In the verse above from Ephesians we are told that grace is given to each one of us that believe in Jesus according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Remember we are saved by putting our faith in Jesus and by the grace (goodness) of God. Then after we have found the Lord we are given individual gifts to use to spread to the world we live in, the good news of the gospel message of God’s grace.

LEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in I John 1:3.

That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

PRAYER;

I thank You today for Your goodness to me. Every day I praise Your name for the wonderful gift of salvation that is mine because of Your grace. Help me today to lead my family as together we reach out to the world we live in to proclaim the good news of Your goodness to us.

Creation: February 1, 2012

TODAYS WORD FOR WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 1, 2012

CREATION

DEFINITION:

Invention; the act of creating, an original product.

SCRIPTURE:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. II Corinthians 5:17

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

It is important that we consider several things when we read the first verse in the Bible. First, the Bible is not only the book from God; it is the book about God. Secondly, in the beginning refers to the beginning of creation. Remember that God was unformed, unmade, uncreated and had no beginning. He always was, always is, and always shall be. And finally God created the heavens and the earth, in other words the entire universe.

God is also our creator since the Word says he created man. Along with being our creator He is our sustainer, our judge and our hope in this world and for eternity. What an awesome series of events to understand. The six days of creation, as outlined in the book of Genesis, clearly tells us that we are here and what we have here is all because of God and His love for us. God loves us so much that He not only created the world for us, but He created us in His image.

The apostle Paul talks about creation in II Corinthians 5:17. He is referring here to the creation of a new life when someone rejects the evils of this world and seeks Jesus and accepts Him as his or her Savior.

When a person accepts Jesus this verse tells us that he becomes a new creation of God saved by the blood of Jesus. He tells us that old things are passed away. These are the things that ran our life before our salvation. He then tells us that all things become new. As a new creation of our Lord the things that dominated our lives before we found Jesus are now history and no longer important. Now in serving Jesus everything has become new.

Yes, God is our creator. He created the world we live in and He created our new life when we found Jesus as our Savior.

LEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in I John 1:3.

That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

PRAYER:

What a privilege that we have knowing that You are our creator. Thank You for the salvation you allowed us to partake of and for the assurance we now have of spending an eternity in heaven with You, our creator and our Lord.
