Creation: May 11, 2010

May 11. TODAYS WORD FOR TUESDAY MAY 11, 2010.

CREATION

DEFINITION:

To cause to come into being.

SCRIPTURE:

The Lord formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Genesis 2:7.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

God, the sovereign creator formed and shaped humanity by unique design. The process involved fashioning a man from the dust of the ground. The word “FORMED” used in genesis 2:7 (above) describes the work of an artist. Like a potter molding and fashioning mud into a pot or some other earthen vessel, so did God form humanity from clay.

God’s work with dust and mud continued by His breathing into man the breath of life, changing his form into a living soul. This made man a spiritual being with the capacity to serve and fellowship with the Lord.

After Adam and Eve sinned, God continued working, sending His only Son, Jesus to die for humanity and then regenerating those who receive Jesus so we can enjoy fellowship with Him.

In Psalm 139 David describes God as fashioning his tiny body together in the darkness of his mother’s womb. God loved David before he ever existed and this is so with us. God designed David just as he designed you and I and brought us into being according to His predetermined plan. David was shaped, just as you and I were, by our Heavenly Father’s love into a unique creation. We came into this world from the inventive heart and hand of God.

David rejoiced in his creation by saying in Psalm 139:14, “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” All life is created by God and someone added to this and said, “And we all bear His autograph.”

God also created an orderly universe for us to enjoy. On a clear night we can all go out and see the orderliness of His creation. The stars, the moon, Jupiter and Venus and all are placed as God wanted them. The earth is just the right distance from the sun. If it was any closer it would be too hot for us to survive. And if it was any farther it would be too cold for us to exist. The universe is so orderly in its design by God that we can predict eclipses, the return of Haley’s comet and so many other wonders of the universe. In Jeremiah 33:25-26 it is written that the ordinances of heaven and earth have the same certainty as His promises to His covenant people. Truly the wonders of God’s creation reveal that there is a God who is at work every day of our lives. Yes, we do serve an awesome God.

LEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in John 16:24.

“Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you shall receive, that your joy may be full.

PRAYER:

We stand back and marvel at the perfection of Your creations. You are such a great and awesome God who does not change. As I place my life in Your hands, I will trust You to be faithful.
