Blood: May 13, 2010

MAY 13. TODAYS WORD FOR THURSDAY MAY 13, 2010.

BLOOD

DEFINITION:

The red fluid that flows through the heart; the vital principle of life.

SCRIPTURE:

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. Ephesians 1:7.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Without blood there is no life. Without blood there is no salvation. Salvation brings eternal life. That is how vital blood is to every person on this earth. Also without blood the Bible is simply a history book. It is because of the blood of Jesus that we have been forgiven of our sins and have the glorious hope of spending an eternity with Jesus.

Today we want to look with you at several references to the blood of Jesus in the Bible. First it brings to us redemption. In I Peter 1:18-19 it reads that knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things like silver or gold from the empty way of life handed down to you by your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ , as a lamb without blemish and without spot. This verse makes it very clear that we do not have redemption by buying it with silver or gold but through the blood of Jesus.

We are all slaves to sin in this world and Jesus went to the cross to purchase us from slavery. He was our substitute and redeemed us from our sins.

The blood of Jesus brings forgiveness. In the verse we have written above from Ephesians explains the basis for our forgiveness. The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross made the payment for our sins. God forgave us through the blood of Jesus.

In Romans 5:8 -10 we read that the blood of Jesus justified us. In other words when we accepted Jesus and because He paid the penalty for our sins we are justified--- just as if I had not sinned. Through Jesus God accepts full payment for our sins.

In Colossians 1:21-22 we are told that the blood of Jesus God has reconciled us to God. We were once alienated from God by our sins. By the blood of Christ our bodies are made holy, acceptable, blameless and above reproach to God.

And in Hebrews 13:12 we are told that because of the blood of Jesus we are sanctified. This means that we are in the position of being set apart to be useful to God. Yes, the blood of Jesus redeems us, justifies us, reconciles us, and sanctifies us. Jesus shed blood on the cross covers our sins once and for all. Because of the blood of Jesus we not only have salvation but we have access to the throne of God.

What we have through the blood of Jesus we cannot buy nor do we deserve it. It was God’s gift to us because of the riches of His grace.

LEARNING:

Our memory verse this week is found in John 16:24.

“Until now you have asked nothing in My name, Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”

PRAYER:

Thank You Jesus for Your shed blood that paid the penalty for my sins. Help me to communicate to my family and my friends the awesome work of the blood of Jesus and how it has changed my life for now and for eternity.
