Bible: May 10, 2010

May 10. TODAYS WORD FOR MONDAY MAY 10, 2010

BIBLE

DEFINITION:

The collection of sacred writings of the Christian religion. The inspired Word of God.

SCRIPTURE:

“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” John 1:1.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

The Bible is known as the Word of God. For believers the Bible is the way that God communicates with us. If we as believers are known as children of God, we must have communication between our father and ourselves. Our communication to God is through prayer. His communication to us is through His Word.

Hebrews 4:12 reads, “For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit.” The Psalmist said in 119:93, “Your precepts have given me life.” God’s Word shows us our sins and their consequences and it also tells us of God’s love and salvation. God’s Word also gives us wisdom for daily living. In Psalm 119:105 we are told that His Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Many books we read inform us but only one book --- the Bible – transforms.

The Bible is God’s plan to show us the best way to live. God builds suspense all through the Old Testament and then at the appointed time God sends his Son to this world to pay the penalty for our sins. His disciple Simeon said, “My eyes have seen Your salvation, a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles and glory to the people of Israel.”

We want to suggest a plan for you to know and understand what God has for you. If you are willing to invest 15 minutes a day in searching for treasure in the Bible, it will be as Solomon said in Proverbs 2, “If you seek (wisdom) as silver, and search for her as you would search for hidden treasure you will soon understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of the Lord.”

Growth will not happen at once but gradually day by day your life will begin changing. It begins with a willing commitment on your part and will lead to the treasures of wisdom and life that you so desperately need in a sinful and evil world.

LEARNING: Our memory verse for this week is found in John 16:24.

“Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”

PRAYER:

Thank You for giving us the Bible so that we can listen to You each day. May I learn to grow in You as I read Your Word. Give me direction, wisdom and knowledge as I search Your Word for the treasures I need in my life.
