Walk: January 15, 2016

TODAY’S WORD FOR FRIDAY JANUARY 15, 2016.

WALK

DEFINITION:

To conduct one’s life in a particular manner; one’s unusual mode of behavior; to advance by moving one’s feet; to wander about.

SCRIPTURE:

He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. I John 2:6.

Enoch walked with God, and then he was no more, because God took him away. Genesis 5:24.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

How will you live today in today’s world? What will your walk be like? When we refer to your walk, we refer to your words and deeds. Does what you say and do honor God and affirm your belief and faith in Him?

We read in the Bible abut Enoch. There are only nine verses in the Bible about Enoch -- five in Genesis, two in Hebrews and two in Jude. What is said about Enoch is, “he walked with God.” This brief four word description reveals that Enoch was a man who had an intimate relationship with God. This is the powerful message that God wants us as believers to know today, that He wants us to have a close relationship with Him. He desires that we walk with Him daily.

The Bible says that for the three hundred years Enoch lived on this earth, he put God first in his life and walked with God. God was first in his thinking, first in his actions, first in his walk, and the only ONE that he worshipped. It is interesting to note that the Bible only refers to two people who walked with God. They were Enoch and Noah.

We are given four examples as to how to walk with God that is relevant for us today.

First, we are to walk with God consistently. Enoch walked with God consistently and without failing (Genesis 5:21-22).

Secondly, we are to walk by faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:5-6). When we walk by faith we believe that God is and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. All those who walk faithfully will be rewarded in heaven.

Thirdly, Micah writs in Micah 6:8 that we are to walk humbly. The Lord requires of us to love mercy and walk humbly with God.

And finally, Amos in Amos 3:3 writes that we are to walk in agreement with God. Amos asks the question, “Can two walk together, unless they are in agreement?”

In order to walk with God, one must begin each day by reading the Bible, meditating on what you read and then spending time communicating with God through prayer. God then can teach us how to walk with Him and He will give us the faith we need to walk with Him.

LEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in James 1:5.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
PRAYER:

Help me to learn to walk with You just like Enoch did. Give me the wisdom to learn and the wisdom to be an example to my family, friends, neighbors and associates so that they might understand by the way I walk and talk that You are being glorified through me.
