Deliverance: September 3, 2015

TODAY’S WORD FOR THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 3, 2015

DELIVERANCE

DEFINITION:

To rescue or save from evil; salvation; redemption.
SCRIPTURE:

And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly Kingdom. II Timothy 4:18.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

When Adam and Eve were driven from the Garden of Eden for their sin, all mankind from that point forward were condemned and were to live in a world subject to the evil devices of Satan. Thankfully, because of God’s love for us, He had a plan of deliverance through His Son’s death on the cross to redeem us from death into eternal life. As believers, when we accept Jesus as our Savior and repent of our sins, we are saved from paying the penalty for our sins and but we must still live in a world subject to the evil that Satan brings into it.

God has not left us defenseless against Satan’s temptations and evil influence in this world. God has given us the Bible. The truth of God’s Word is more powerful than any of Satan’s evil devices.

God’s Word will strengthen our faith and draw us into a right relationship with our Lord. It can’t help us if we leave it on a shelf. We must read it.

In Matthew 6:9-13 Jesus gave us an example as how to pray. He taught us to ask for deliverance from evil. There should be no doubt that we need to pray for deliverance every day from the evil that surrounds us. Prayer is a strong defense against evil.

The Apostle Paul went through many trials and persecutions and in II Timothy 3:11 he said that the Lord delivered him from all of them. This did not just happen accidently. Paul had a relationship with our Lord that included daily communication. It is from his personal experience that Paul assures us that the Lord will deliver us from all evil and bring us safely to His heavenly kingdom.

Paul also tells us in II Corinthians 1:10 that God delivers us from death. In Colossians 1:3, Paul tells us that God delivers us from the power of darkness which is Satan. What wonderful assurances we have as believers of the deliverances from evil that we have through Jesus Christ each day. On the cross Jesus conquered death and Satan.

There is no evil of any kind that our Lord cannot overcome. Yes, we are living in a sinful and cruel world but as believers we have so much to thank our Lord for including the deliverance that He gives us from our trials and temptations.

LEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in Isaiah 53:6.

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

PRAYER:

How grateful our family is for the deliverance that You continually give us from the evil, trials and the temptations we face in life. Make today a special day of victory as we do all we can to honor You.
