Considerate: August 21, 2015

TODAY’S WORD FOR FRIDAY AUGUST 21, 2015.

CONSIDERATE

DEFINITION:

Thoughtful or sympathetic; showing kindly regard or respect for the feelings or circumstances of others; courteous.
SCRIPTURE:

Now therefore says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways. Haggai 1:5

To speak evil of no one; to be peaceable, considerate, gentle, showing all humility to all men. Titus 3:2.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

It doesn’t take much observation to see how inconsiderate our society has become. People push and shove to get ahead in line. Drivers recklessly change lanes cutting off other drivers. People freely criticize others with no consideration of their feelings.

The Apostle Paul in his letter to Titus (above) instructs Titus to remind those who believe in Jesus Christ of the Christian principles that should be evident in a Christians life. Being considerate is one of them.

We have mentioned often that we are living in what many call the “ME” generation. This is a generation that thinks highly of self with very little consideration of others. Our sinful nature leads us to put ourselves ahead of others but one who loves and serves in Jesus should be led to always put others ahead of self. We are put here on this earth to be God’s representatives. God’s priority is for us to obey His commandments and to do His will.

Twenty-five centuries ago God’s people had forgotten God’s priority for them. God had called them to return to Jerusalem and to rebuild the temple which had been destroyed by the Babylonians. They started right away but never completed building it because they had become more concerned about themselves and building homes for themselves. God sent Haggai to them with the message, “Consider your ways.” They were to stop thinking of only themselves and get back to doing the will of God and complete the task of building the temple.

God has given us the task of building His Kingdom. It is good for us to stop and consider our ways. We need to ask ourselves: Are we doing what God wants us to do?

Have you been considerate of those people who you have met or talked to today? Where you considerate to your spouse and children today? If you had issues to deal with what kind of attitude did you have? Was it Christ-like?

Our genuine concern and consideration for others is a true measure of the depth of our relationship with our Lord. In Isaiah 58:7 Isaiah tells us what truly honors God. “It is to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter. When you see the naked, clothe him and do not turn away from your own flesh and blood.” In Proverbs 14:31 we read, “Whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”

LEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in Philippians 4:19.

And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

PRAYER:

Enable me to have the heart of a servant and to be kind and considerate of others. Help me to be loving and kind to my spouse, children and friends. May others see Jesus through me in all that I do?
