Communication Part 2: March 11, 2011

TODAYS WORD FOR FRIDAY MARCH 11, 2011.

COMMUNICATION

TODAY WE READ THE WORDS FROM ONE OF OUR GRANDCHILDREN PART TWO.

DEFINITION:

To give or interchange thoughts, feelings, or information by speaking or writing; to express ideas or feelings effectively.

SCRIPTURE:

Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Yesterday we introduced to you our oldest grandchild and her husband. They shared with us in their own words a few thoughts on one of the ten stepping stones we have developed to have a happier family. They continue today sharing their thoughts on Communication.

Most recently we have begun to learn the importance of communication in marriage. We both have often found ourselves making assumptions about the other person’s feelings and opinions, and we have quickly discovered that assumptions cannot and should not take the place of communication. Part of marriage involves the two of us becoming “one” and without communication, it is impossible to blend two lives into one.

Through changes in plans, differing schedules, and a variety of separate interests, keeping each other informed is essential to harmony within our relationship. Most importantly, we have learned the importance of having corresponding ideas about our faith, values, and our future dreams and goals. Staying current in our exchange of ideas now will help us ensure that we will always work together towards these same ideals.

Communication has been of upmost importance in all areas of our lives. Having the value of communication from a young age, we have been able to appreciate the worth of a strong family unit, the enrichment that lasting friendships can provide, and the joy that communication can bring to a marriage. The two-way street of communication is truly a more blissful path than any one-way street.

We thank our granddaughter and her husband for their encouraging words on Communication these past two days. We pray their thoughts have blessed your heart as they have blessed ours.

LEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in 1 Chronicles 28:20.

And David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and of good courage, and do it, for the Lord God, my God, will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.”

PRAYER:

Help us as spouses and as parents to be strong in the Lord and show courage in communicating the love of our Lord and Savior. May our communication be strengthened daily because of the assurance that You give us that You will never forsake us but will always be with us.
